I started Habersham Records with a modest goal - I would like to be able to earn a decent living doing what I do. I'm not looking for fame, fortune, and rockstardom. I just want the hard work I put into writing and recording music to translate into a steady income. It seems to me that this should be possible nowadays. I don't know that anyone has figured out the best way to do it just yet.
Technology has made it easy and affordable for indepedent musicians to record their work and distribute it without having to sign a record deal with a major label. It has also given music fans some exciting new tools for finding music from the comfort of their own desktops. The problem is that so many of us have flooded the internet that it can be hard for artsists and fans to find each other.
The mission of Habersham Records is to help connect artists with fans, so that both can benefit from the exchange. Starting with me, of course. I am my own guinea pig in this venture. Using my own music, I am learning a little bit each day; how to record, market, and sell music in this brave new technological world. I hope that my successes and failures will allow me to develop Habersham into a company that can eventually help other indie artists make the most of their careers.
This experiment is still in its infancy, and I approach it with a simple motto: "Zero expectations. Limitless possibilities."
